From 30 October 2026, employers will have a legal duty to take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. Employers will also become liable for acts of harassment of any form that are carried out by third parties against their staff in the course of their employment.
These legislative changes are seismic in the length and breadth of their reach and their effect on employers. Proactive preparatory steps should therefore be taken by employers ahead of their introduction, which are reflective of the employers’ respective industries.
Given the media industry’s project-based nature, freelance workforce, irregular working hours, frequent interaction with contractors, talent, clients and members of the public, complex situations are likely to arise, and for which you must be ready.
