Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru, the trade association for independent TV production companies in Wales, today responded to the publication of a new report on Film and High-End TV by the House of Commons Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee.
TAC Chair Llyr Morus said:
“We note the publication of this wide-ranging report, which among other things acknowledges the current issues in the industry and presents a number of solutions. We particularly welcome the emphasis on skills and training and also calls to protect the creative industries from having copyrighted material scraped by generative AI without transparency or fair remuneration.”
“Elsewhere we note discussion of tax relief for nations and regions production and would reiterate that one potential solution is an adjustment to the High-End TV expenditure credit, to allow a lower threshold than £1m an hour for productions in minority UK languages such as Welsh. This would allow S4C and others to be part of the HETV sector and continue to serve audiences with a greater number of high-end shows, which can also be monetised domestically and internationally. We look forward to continued engagement with the Committee and many others at Wales and UK level on this.”
